Oakville Gum Recession and Sensitivity Treatment
Gum Recession may occur for various reasons, with the same result – the tooth roots become exposed due to the lack of gum tissue. It happens mostly to adults but to younger people as well, leading to the buildup of bacteria, causing severe risk to oral hygiene and health, including tooth loss or worse.
What are the causes of Gum Diseases?
Gum diseases are most often caused by bacteria that inflicts damage to the gums and surrounding tissues. In fact, excessive brushing can cause it as well, by wearing down the tooth enamel and creating perfect pockets for bacteria to thrive in.
When you are suffering from gum recession, it’s time to see a professional. We will treat your gums and teeth, making sure the bacteria are eliminated and the disease stops progressing. Then we introduce measures to restore your gums and prevent the recession from recurring.
Of course the best way to be healthy is to take care of your teeth in advance, which is why seeing a hygienist at least once in several months is extremely important. When the teeth and gums are taken care of with regular preventative treatments, the most common problems – tooth decay and gum disease – can be offset, delayed or even prevented entirely. Brushing and flossing can only achieve so much, due to the fact that most cavities occur where dental floss and brush simply cannot access. Or, as we just mentioned, brushing your teeth wrong may actually lead to severe complications.
Some areas of the mouth can only be properly cleaned of food residue and build-up by regular dental hygiene services. Those will fully clean your teeth, preventing the bacteria from chiseling at your tooth enamel, creating cavities and unpleasant odors.
When gum recession or gum disease do happen, there are ways to treat them, most of which can be administered in office. A treatment plan is developed in exact accordance with the patient’s needs. Some of the procedures will include root planing, scaling, topical or oral antibiotics, and possible surgical intervention in extreme cases. Contact us if you suspect you have gum disease, and we’ll do our best to stop it before it progresses further.
